BSc Microbiology, Liverpool - 2005 After spending a year in China teaching 3-12 year old children English, I decided I wanted a career with good long term prospects and that offered a variety of roles. This is what Solaglas has offered me so far.
My first role was in the Manufacturing and Supply Network business in Plymouth where I got the variety I was looking for and thrived on. I spent the first month or so working on the factory floor where I learnt all the basics of glass and its manufacture, then moved on to other roles - which included reducing the businesses glass waste and setting up maintenance routines and records. I was lucky that in Plymouth I got to work in all aspects of the business and I built good relationships with some of our key customers.
In the summer of 2006 I asked if it was possible to move further north and Solaglas found a position for me - but the position didn't open up until October. This meant in the mean time I had the opportunity to work on an H&S project in Bristol and alongside the Manufacturing Manager in Portsmouth. Both projects provided me with new skills and I also learnt how different businesses worked.
I'm now working 'up north' in Coventry establishing electronic ordering/invoicing/order acknowledgement links directly with our largest customers.
What will I do next? Only time will tell. What I do know is that Solaglas will continue to offer me the challenges and variety that I love.
