History

Solaglas boasts over 140 years of expertise in glass manufacturing and glazing. Headquartered in Coventry, Solaglas was first formed in 1982, following the merger of two long-established glass companies, Clark Eaton and Doulton Glass.

Solaglas became part of the Saint-Gobain Group in 1990, enabling it to draw on the vast global resources of the world’s leader in building products. The company now employs over 1,500 people and has a turnover of over £150 million.

1815

Royal Doulton is founded as a partnership specialising in stoneware bottles.

 

1865 

The Clark Eaton company is founded.

1972

Doulton Glass Industries, part of the Royal Doulton Group, is taken over by Pearson and Son.

1982 Doulton Glass Industries is acquired by Plate Glass and Shatterprufe Industries (South Africa). Christened Solaglas, the company comprises two major divisions: 
  • Automotive –  Autoglass
  • Architectural – Solaglas

    1983

    The Clark Eaton company is acquired by Solaglas Limited              

    1989 

    Autoglass is divested to focus on the Architectural division.

    1990

    Solaglas is acquired by Saint-Gobain.

     

    2002

    Solaglas acquires Windowcare, a Rotherham-based company specialising in emergency glass repair.

    2003

    Solaglas revises the organisational structure based on areas of activity
